FIfth Wheel Subjects Flashing

Is anyone else having a problem in the Fifth Wheel Forum when highlighting a topic to read the first few words? Normally if I put my cursor over the subject I can read the first few words of a post. For the last couple of days, when I do this I get a box that flashes on & off & it is very difficult to open up the topic in a new window. I would appreciate feedback from anyone else having this problem.

RE: Buying a Ford F450???

I have a friend who just bought the F450 Diesel. He said it was very nice but a "diesel hog". Got 11 mpg empty. However, it is brand new. Of course, the mpg is hearsay.

RE: water pump trouble

I just noticed that the water pump on my fiver when turned on runs all the time. It has good pressure and functions fine it just wont cut off. The fresh water tank has plenty of water so I know that is not it. I would appreciate any help.
If it is a shurflo pump there is an adjustment on the pump to allow you to set the pressure that the pump turns off at. You can try adjusting it. I don't think you have a leak. The adjustment is a screw. Go on shurflo's web site & you may find directions for making the adjustment. If you have the paperwork that came with the pump it is in the literature.

RE: pro pressure tire monitor

When you install the sensors on your tires, you will program the monitor. Your monitor will only show 8 tires unless you have a dually pickup, in which case it will show 10 tires. Yes, the picture on the monitor shows a large tow vehicle & a small towed vehicle, but I am smart enough to know that my rig has a big fifth wheel being towed by a pickup truck. It's really not that hard, I just look in the side view mirrors. Sewriously, the Doran system has saved me one tire already & I use it on every trip.

RE: Jayco Eagle question

My suggestion is to check the top of the shower surround where it joins the wall of the bathroom. My Designer has a gap in the corner. I bought tape for selaing bathtubs at Walmart & installed it all alonmg the top seam of the surround & wall. No more leaks. The water had appeared to be leaking from the door but it actually was running down the rear wall & then under the shower.

RE: 30 amp service vs 50 amp service

We have a 50 amp service & two AC's. Many times, only 30 amps is available. We can run one AC & everything else using the 50 to 30 amp adapter. This includes Microwave & small electric heater. I'll bet if anything trips it is due to low park voltage not your fiver.

RE: Water Pump running But Pumps no Water

Sometimes, it is the pump. At least, that's what happened to me. I started having problems when I was winterizing. I could not get the pump to suck the antifreeze into the pump. After holding the gallon of antifreeze higher than the pump, it worked. Then on a trip I had the problem of the pump cavitating & not pumping water. I changed the check valve on the water inlet, pulled down the insulation under the fresh water tank and checked the connections there & checked all connections on the pump. All looked good. I replaced the shurflow pump with a brand new one of the same make & model & have had no problems since. So, in my case, it was a bad pump. It was a lot of work checking the connections (taking down the insulation under fresh water tank alone took an hour). I would have been better spending the $74 for a new pump. But if it happens again, I'll probably go through the whole process of checking all connections. Just makes sense to check everything out.

RE: Just add it to the list!!! Roof damage... help!

Walmart sells eternabond in its rv section.
Just say no to walmart
Last year when I was staying at Myrtle Beach Travel Park in Myrtle Beach, the Columbia newspaper had a big article about food prices from 2000 to 2007 in South Carolina. According to the article, Walmart opened a series of Super Centers in that time period in the area & the effect was so enormous that there was much lower increase in cost of living in that area than in areas not served by Walmart Super Centers. I hate seeing local businesses go out of business but why would anyone pay substantially more for the same products elsewhere. Do you go to the small RV Dealer to buy your RV if their selling price is substantially higher than the larger dealer? I am tired of people attacking Walmart. I'll bet most who do still shop at Walmart or do look for the best price when they shop for anything & everything. If you are one of the few who doesn't I tip my hat to you for sticking to your principles. Just remember if you have that approach for Walmart you should do the same for every place you shop.

RE: Suburban oven problems please help

I believe that the extra heat you are using is heating the thermocouple. The pilot flame size is contolled by the size of the orifice on the pilot valve. It could be clogged. Could you look at a friends stove & compare size of pilot flame? I think the thermocouple is bad. As the pilot flame warms up the thermocouple a very small electrical current is created which holds open the solenoid on the gas valve. This is a safety solenoid & must be open for the main valve to allow gas through when the thermostat on the oven calls for heat. Try a propane dealer for a replacement.

RE: New Hampshire dealer really steps up on used trailer

Too often, dealers treat their customers poorly. This dealer deserves a lot of recognition. Good news like this is the best publicity in the world. This business should get a very effective return on doing the right thing. He could have spent $2000 on ads & won't get the same return if we let everyone know to do business with him if you live in his area. In addition, the customer was treated fairly. How often does that happen? Vulcaneer, thanks for sharing your experience.

RE: tornado rotary tank rinser

I installed one in my brother's TT. I have the factory installed one on my Designer fiver. They do work great but I would advise you to get one of the clear 45 degree connectors to put on the end of your trailer sewer line & then attach your flex dump hose to the clear adaptor. Flush the tank until water runs clear to make sure you got as much as possible. I close my black tank valve after flushing & add more water to the tank using the flusher & then drain it again with the flusher still running. The directions with the flusher say to never run the flusher with the valve closed but I hope that is because they don't want you leaving the water running & forgeting about it as this will overflow your tank & could damage it. I always do this while I am paying attention to the process to avoid this potential problem.

Thnaks for explaining this problem. I'll keep it in the back of my mind for the future as I'm pretty good at doing stupid things myself.

RE: is black tank really empty????????

You put ICE in your black tank before a trip? It's PROBABLY got ICE in it then. It will often take up to a week for it to melt unless it's REALLY hot outside.
I'm sorry, but I have to ask, how do you know it will take up to a week for the ice to melt? And is this on a trip where you are using the toilet daily?

RE: 6v versus 12v batteries

You are not missing a thing. Care, usage and maintenance will determine the life.
For immediate usage, amp hours are amp hours. Same rating = same energy output before recharge.
Two 6 volt bateeries will have more amp hours than 2 12 volt batteries. If you don't believe me, go to Interstate Batteries website & look it up. However compare similar sized batteries. 6 volt batteries (golf cart style) can be deeply discharged more than 12 volt deep cycle batteries. You are right about maintenance & the most important factors are keeping electolyte levels to the proper height by adding distilled water, avoiding completely recharging the batteries & keeping all connections clean & tight.

RE: INcreasing Cold Airflow to sleeping area ?

Jimmyfred, do you have adjustable ceiling registers? If not, maybe you might want to consider buying them & installing them. You can adjust the ones in the living area to blow out less air & leave bedroom ones wide open. If you have a Chill Grille on your AC near return air vent you can open it all the way when you need more air in living area.

RE: What do I need?

You need a deep cycle battery. Cranking batteries are designed for frequent shallow discharging. Deep cycle batteries can be discharged further (deeper) many times & still be recharged. Try going to Interstate Battery's webssite. There is a lot of good info there.

RE: Jayco Designer "Legacy" owners

hoops,I would agree with one ac(very comfortable). What I don't understand are rigs that are mounting ac towards rear of unit. Common sense says air would be not so cool by the time it gets to the front. What does RDQS mean, rear dining quad slide? To Chevy man,
My unit is a 04 3780RLQS,only fiberglass was repaired. I would think my warrenty is up, it really is just a small eye sore. Yes,the Legacy is a $6-10,000 upgrade Designer. my unit came with $3,000 exterior decal upgrade. Can post interior pictures if requested(upon DW's approval of coures).ha ha. specs can still be found on Jayco site.
I believe that Jayco has a 5 year warranty on the frame. I would definitely talk to Whitehorse about it. The fiberglass is just a symptom of the problem you might have underneath. Do a search for frame repairs on Jaycos, Montanas, etc.

RE: Jayco Designer "Legacy" owners

thank you everyone for your reply; does anyone have a crack at bottom left corner at bedroom slide? had mine repaired before pick up but it came back; durning my research for 5er i have read about this continuing problem, but just cosmedic.hoops do you feel it necessary to add second ac in bed room? or have you been comfortable?
I had the crack below the corner of the bedroom slide. When you say you had it repaired, do you mean the fiberglass or the problem causing the crack? The crack comes because the frame around the slide opening is weak. The only repair involves removing the fiberglass & welding new gussets on the aluminum frame. The procedure is very specific & takes about 40 man hours. The slide must be removed while this work is done. Jayco should cover the frame repair under warranty. What model do you have? I had my Dealer, Whitehorse RV in Williamstown, NJ take care of the repair. They are excellent. This should cost you nothing & it must be done correctly or the crack will come back. If you have any other questions, PM me.

RE: Jayco Designer "Legacy" owners

What would be the difference in the Designer Legacy and the Designer. I just figured they phased out that part of the name.
In 2005 when I bought my Designer, the Legacy model had wooden blinds, 2nd tv in bedroom, 2nd ac, better fiberglass exterior, round table instead of rectangular, & a few other things. About $6,000 more.
